FAQ

Questions people ask before they need us

Straight answers about what We Care does, how we work, how fast we respond, and what it costs. If your question is not here, message us on WhatsApp and we will answer it directly.

What exactly is We Care?
We Care is personal, on-the-ground emergency assistance for foreigners, expats, travellers and families in Thailand and Southeast Asia. A real person comes to you, coordinates with the hospital, keeps your family informed, handles insurance paperwork and organises everything around your treatment. We are not an insurance company and not a call centre.
How is We Care different from my travel insurance?
Insurance pays bills. We Care handles the situation in person. We are physically present at the hospital, speak with the medical staff, manage the practical tasks and stay with you until things are resolved. We work alongside your insurance and submit the paperwork for you, but we are independent of any insurer.
What does We Care do that a hospital does not?
Hospitals focus on medical treatment. Everything outside the ward is left to you: contacting your family, filing the insurance claim, retrieving luggage, checking out of your hotel, returning a rental vehicle, rebooking flights and bridging the language barrier. We take care of all of it.
How fast can you reach me in an emergency?
Message us on WhatsApp. We reply immediately during the day and within 6 hours at any time. For hospital cases in our core area we aim to be with you within hours.
Which areas do you cover?
Our base is Phuket and we cover Thailand directly. With the SEA Premium package we also travel to emergencies anywhere in Southeast Asia and come to you in person.
Can I contact you during an active emergency, or only before I travel?
Both. Before you travel, you can set up our free Emergency Pass and save our WhatsApp number. You can also reach us for the first time during an active emergency. All packages are available on short notice.
How much does it cost?
We offer tiered packages so you can choose the level of help that fits your situation. Additional on-site days are 390 EUR per day and an airport and departure service is available as a 290 EUR add-on. Prices are confirmed upfront before we start, and payment is in advance.
How do I reach you?
The fastest way is WhatsApp at +66 96 204 0095. You can also call the same number or email hello@wecare-asia.com.

Emergency Pass

Our free Emergency Pass keeps your emergency details on your phone. Here is how to set it up and use it.

What is the Emergency Pass?

The Emergency Pass is a free tool for travellers, expats and retirees in Thailand. It keeps everything you might need in an emergency on your phone: the Thai emergency numbers, your medical details in English for hospital staff, your emergency contacts and insurance, copies of important documents and an image for your lock screen. It works in English and German. You don’t need to register.

Open the Emergency Pass

How do I set up the Emergency Pass?

It takes about ten minutes. Set it up before you travel, or as soon as you arrive.

  1. Open the pass at wecare-asia.com/emergency-pass.
  2. Add it to your home screen. This step matters: on iPhone, anything you enter in Safari does not appear in the home screen version.
    • iPhone: open the page in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen”, then “Add”.
    • Android: open the page in Chrome, tap the menu (three dots, top right), then “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.
  3. Open the pass from the new icon on your home screen. From now on, always use it from there.
  4. Fill in “My info”: your name, date of birth, nationality, emergency contacts, blood type, allergies, conditions, medication, insurance and where you are staying. Everything saves automatically.
  5. Add your documents under “Documents”, for example your insurance card, an advance directive or a medication plan. Photos and PDFs both work.
  6. Create your lock screen image under “Lock screen” and set it as your wallpaper (see the next question).
  7. Add your own numbers on the “Emergency” tab, for example your hotel, your embassy or the hospital nearest to you.
How do I set the lock screen image?

Go to “Lock screen” in the pass, choose what the image should show and tap “Create image”. The image is always in English so helpers and hospital staff can read it.

  • iPhone: tap “Save image”, then “Save Image”. Then go to Settings › Wallpaper › Add New Wallpaper › Photos, choose the image and tap “Add” › “Set as Wallpaper Pair”. If iOS zooms in on the image, pinch with two fingers until the whole image is visible.
  • Android: tap “Save image” to save it to your phone. Then go to Settings › Wallpaper (the name can vary by phone), choose the image and set it for the lock screen.

Anyone who picks up your phone can see this image, so only show what you are comfortable sharing. Create a new image whenever your details change.

What do I do in an emergency?
  • Call 1669 for an ambulance. Open the pass and tap the number. You can also call 191 for the police or 1155 for the English-speaking Tourist Police.
  • Show your details to medical staff: on the “Emergency” tab, tap “Show my info to medical staff”. Your details appear in large text in English.
  • Contact We Care on WhatsApp when you need help with everything outside treatment: your family, insurance, hotel, visa or the journey home.
Is my data in the Emergency Pass safe? Can We Care see it?

No, We Care cannot see it. Everything you enter stays only on your phone, in your browser. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and there is no account. You can delete everything at any time under “Help” › “Delete all my data”.

What happens if I change phones or clear my browser data?

Your details and documents are stored only on this phone, so they are not carried over to a new phone. Clearing your browser data deletes them as well. Keep the originals of your documents, and set up the pass again on a new phone. We recommend checking your details before every trip.

Is We Care an emergency service?

No. We Care is not a medical provider or an emergency service. In a medical emergency, always call 1669 first. We take care of everything around your treatment, not the treatment itself.
